How to Cast a Spinning Reel/Rod – For Beginners
|How to Cast a Spinning Reel/Rod – For Beginners
In this video demonstration, I show you how to cast a spinning reel/rod. This is great for beginners or anyone who wants to perfect their cast, utilizing spinning tackle. Before learning how to cast, I recommend learning the fundamental terminology of the reel, such as the bail, drag dial, crank and gear ratio.
The bail is what allows you to release line from the reel; it also oscillates evenly to add the line back to the reel.
The drag dial allows you to adjust drag tension.
The crank or handle is what you will turn to retrieve your line.
The reel gear ratio is what determines how fast the line is retrieved, higher gear ratios are faster.
Next you want to open the bail and place your index or trigger finger on the line like I showed in the demonstration. You then want to have 6-8 inches of line hanging from your rod tip to your lure. If it is much longer, your casting accuracy will suffer drastically. Point your rod at the intended target and pull the rod back or load the rod and cast in the direction of your target while releasing the line from your finger. If the lure shoot in the air, you released too soon, if it fly’s down by your feet you held on to long. Don’t worry, practice a little and you will get the hang of it in no time. Never had a problem with the real. Closing the bail, but each to his own. Great video, thanks it helped my grandson alot.
Thanks man, Now I know how to use my dad's spinner 🙂
Thank you for the demo.
Check out my tricks for placing line on a spool @
Amazing tips. Thanks
Nice also make a video how to fix a line on rod , nice video
Thank you. The whole procedure seems basic, but good technique is so important.
Tanks man
Where'd you get your sweatshirt?
Nice thank you
Man…. That was so well done!
Got PTSD when I was little because I hit my uncle in the butt. Now I feel ready to become a fisherman
GREAT TIPS I AM GOING TO WATCH THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL I CAN GET A FEEL FOR MY ROD AND REEL
Total fucking joke. Anyone who needs a tutorial on using a spinning reel isn't ready to graduate from a Zebco 202 yet.
Hey Josh the St Croix rod you are demonstrating with looks great..Do you still use this rod? What competitor's rods compare that you now use * I did watch your video on Bull Bay Rods and liked the options* Kistler Rods is only 20 minutes from my house so I'm looking for 2 good inshore marsh rods for Reds Trout and Flounder.
caught my very first fish ever in the canadian arctic
Thank you so much for this video 👍👍💖
Thanks for the tips. Friend convinced me to go fishing recently and I am loving it.
I'm gonna be fishing for the first time with friends this weekend. Thanks for this info bro!
I do fishing
this is great, i just tried out the skill
I should of watched this video before I looked like a dumb ass in front of real fishermen 😂😂 it was my first time fishing tho
Nice one man
Thanks for the help.
Yeeeah when you havee a 5 oz weight on and 100lb test line you can't let it just lay on your finger when you flip your bale
Do you use 2 hands on your friends rod ?
What's the best bait to use for beginners?
Thanks. I'm comfortable baitcasting and pretty accurate. All the moving parts on a new spinning outfit are a mystery. (a retirement gift). Camera showed position of bail b4 cast…great. Close bail manually…wow I thought you had to really crank to get it to shut. thnx again. 4 hours until sunset. I think I'll go fishin'.
I had to practice casting yesterday as I have not been fishing since I was 15 and this was helpful. Will implement these tips next time I hit the lake. Thank you!
Thx good tips
So you have to use two hands ? fucking why ? you are not surf casting a big heavy rod with large bait . I use one hand and can cast with deadly accuracy . Two hands are for queers to guide that big stiff dick into their waiting mouth .
Imagine making a 7 minute video on something you could’ve explained in 10 seconds flat 🤦♂️
I just learned today that I've been using a left handed rod my entire life. I'm right handed but I was taught to use the left handed one by my dad, who is left handed. Never had a problem with it though
That is great and it worked for me. I was doing it all wrong, but now I am casting out nearly where I want it to be. Getting closer all the time.
Thank you for sharing
Very helpful thank you!
So great!! Thank you for sharing your video. very useful for me
Check out this kids cast.

Thank you! Alot of great fishing tips 🎣🙌
When I cast all my line comes off and wraps around my reel I’ve been doing it for years just fine but here recently it’s messing up
