Dave Eggers: 2008 TED Prize wish: Once Upon a School
|Dave Eggers: 2008 TED Prize wish: Once Upon a School
http://www.ted.com Accepting his 2008 TED Prize, author Dave Eggers asks the TED community to personally, creatively engage with local public schools. With spellbinding eagerness, he talks about how his 826 Valencia tutoring center inspired others around the world to open their own volunteer-driven, wildly creative writing labs. But you don’t need to go that far, he reminds us — it’s as simple as asking a teacher “How can I help?” He asks that we share our own volunteering stories at his new website, Once Upon a School.

I liked the old music. This sucks!
I couldn't stand hearing this guy fumble through his speech. I had to stop watching after a few minutes.
he must of had allot of money to start with!!! that or really Really REALLY good grant writers!
Dave Eggers is the Leonardo Da Vinci of our time.
The guy is a genius. Thanks for the privilege of seeing this.
I think I will go to Park Slope. It is time for me to get fitted for a new Super Hero Cape and recite the vow of Heroism with my hand over my heart. ;-{)
Terrific Program. BRAVO!!!
Every entertaining talk! Too bad about the new music.
i wish these videos weren't cooped up in a home-video format on youtube…especially such an inspiring one as this. it belongs on network TV or something!
the work that is done is wonderful. I am so happy there are people out there doing truly good things. thank you for posting this

such a great clip, so inspiring, and such a great author giving that talk
i can't stand how much he says uh, um, uhm. so annoying. andandand uh um
I am an intern at 826 Valencia and I would much rather spend 16 hours of my week, unpaid, to be there for the kids than making money at my job. It is such an incredible organization one of the few things left for the community in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of the Mission.
This is wonderful I live in colorado springs and if you build one here I'd love to design the front store.I'm a local artist and I think this is amazing.
This is a great concept. I live in a small town in the the Mojave desert that happens to have many retired scientists, engineers, and other degreed people. We also have many kids needing help in our schools. This talk motivates me to try doing what Mr. Eggers has done in a my community.
Really inspiring Dave !
What a great audience
